Prevent Alkali-Silica Reaction With Alkali Resistant Materials
Alkali-resistant materials, including fibers, aggregates, and coatings, are used in various construction applications to mitigate the deleterious effects of alkalis present in concrete or other cementitious materials. Alkalis, particularly sodium and potassium ions, can react with certain types of aggregates containing reactive silica, leading to a phenomenon known as alkali-silica reaction (ASR). ASR can cause significant expansion, cracking, and deterioration of concrete over time, compromising its structural integrity and durability.
